As our gardening season winds down in the autumn, Mother Nature gives us the grand finale; Maples in all their glorious fall colors! There are so many beautiful trees with bright fall color but none can rival the Sugar Maples. Even among Sugar’s there is a hierarchy and Fall Fiesta ™ ranks among the best.
Acer saccharum ‘Bailsta’, Fall Fiesta™ Sugar Maple was selected in 1987 and rigorously tested and observed until it’s introduced by Bailey Nurseries in 1998. One look is all you’ll need to see that it is superior to the sort. The branching is full and beautifully symmetrical. Reaching a height of 50 to 75 feet, with a 50-foot spread, the habit is upright and rounded. Besides being easy to transplant, Fall Fiesta™ is a rapid grower compared to other Sugar Maples.
The new foliage emerges with just a touch of red. The leaves quickly turn to a leathery, glossy deep green and are very resistant to leaf tatter and leafhopper damage. And then the show begins… vibrant yellows, oranges and reds put on a festive display in the fall. What stands out the most about Fall Fiesta™ is that they show far more oranges and reds than other Sugar Maples.
This majestic tree is suitable for lawns, parks, golf courses or any other place where this vigorous grower will have the room to reach it’s mature size. Hardy in zones 4-7 and resistant to sun scald and frost cracks. As is the case with all Sugar Maples, Fall Fiesta™ prefers a somewhat moist, yet well-drained soil with just a slight acidity to it for optimum growth.
Let the Fiesta begin! All of Fall Fiesta’s™ characteristics combine to make this a tree you’ll want to plant and watch and enjoy for years to come!
