Bailey Nurseries Launches “ Trees are Cool” Program
Increasing the “cool” factor for planting trees.

St. Paul, Minn. (Spring 2007) – Do you know your carbon footprint? Probably not. Most customers who enter a garden center don’t know theirs either. But, if you gave them the opportunity to lower their utility costs, increase the value of their home and do something good for the environment all at the same time, chances are they’d go for it. The Bailey Nurseries “Trees are Cool” program gives homeowners that opportunity... it’s as easy as planting a tree. The “Trees are Cool” program will offer educational tips and tools to help teach homeowners why trees are important and how they can benefit their lives.

The “Trees are Cool” marketing campaign will include:
• Educational tree tags and other point of purchase materials
• A web page allowing homeowners to pledge their tree planting activities
• Ideas for how garden centers and communities can get involved in tree planting
• A media relations program aimed at teaching homeowners the benefits of planting
trees

To kick off the “Trees are Cool” program, school children in Minnesota and Oregon will be
planting more than 120,000 trees donated by the company. Bailey Nurseries is an official
partner of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) 2007 Billion Tree Campaign.
The international campaign aims to increase awareness of deforestation, erosion and global
warming by encouraging governments, businesses and individuals to plant one billion trees
this year.

"We are excited to be working with the United Nations Environment Programme as a Gold
Sponsor of this globally important campaign,” says Pat Bailey, Bailey Nurseries Vice
President of Sales and Marketing. “All trees pledged through our “Trees are Cool” program
will bring us one step closer to reaching this global goal.”

Trees play an important roll, not just in global environmental issues but also in the
environment of our own backyards. It is estimated that one tree can absorb the Carbon
Dioxide produced by four cars every year. In addition to reducing Carbon Dioxide, trees can
have far reaching effects on the quality of air and water in our communities. Shade trees
can help lower utility costs. Trees can also increase the value of our property, and make
our neighborhoods and public spaces more attractive. Research shows that having a
greener environment can even have a positive affect our moods and our health.

activities and to learn more about the “Trees Are Cool” program. For more information about
