GREAT RIVER GREENING ANNOUNCES 2007 ENVIRONMENTAL HONOREES OF THE YEAR
Great River Greening announced today the seven organizations and individuals to be honored as the environmental stewards of the year at its A Million Shades of Green Gala Friday, April 27, Arbor Day. The honorees are:

Xcel Energy - Corporate Environmental Steward of the Year
Bailey Nurseries - Environmental Business of the Year
Saint Paul Parks and Recreation - Environmental Community Partner of the Year
The Saint Paul Garden Club - Non-Profit Environmental Steward of the Year
Susan Barker of Saint Paul - Individual Environmental Steward of the Year
Chris Faust of Saint Paul - Landscape Photographer of the Year
Frederick D. Somers of Northfield - Landscape Artist of the Year

The honorees have been chosen on the basis of their commitment to the environment as demonstrated through their accomplishments related to the preservation, restoration, and beautification of natural areas; creative use of native plants in public and private urban spaces; increased and improved access to natural areas; inspiration of an awareness of the natural beauty of our landscape which is our heritage.

Bailey Nurseries, because of its over one hundred years of commitment to the environment through its industry innovations, contributions to horticultural research and innovation, education of the public on the benefits and joys of plants, and philanthropic service to the community, has been chosen as the environmental business of the year. Great River Greening, and its restoration work in the Mississippi, Minnesota, and St. Croix River Valleys, is among the many community organizations Bailey Nurseries has supported throughout the years. Mark Bailey served as a member of Great River Greening's Board of directors for three years.
A Million Shades of Green Gala takes place Friday, April 27, 2007 at the Marjorie McNeely Conservatory located on the Como Park Zoo and Conservatory Campus in Saint Paul. The evening begins at 6:30 PM with a reception and silent auction followed by dinner, the awards ceremony, and entertainment.
