Grower Foreman – Illinois

Description

To assist in all aspects of growing container production, including pruning, staking, weeding, spacing, junking and winterizing. With growth, eventually managing various production crews. To make observations on container product with expected input and maintaining part of the Growers Manual; to include Plant to Finish dates. Work closely with Department Head on planting schedule and sequence to eventually be in charge of printing, inputting and checking potting records. Assist and maintain trial area to aid in its growth. May be expected to occasionally do some evaluations and give input on potential new varieties. When needed, take cuttings on material and assist Plant Health in scouting, spraying and fertilizing. If not in possession of IL applicator’s license, must be willing to obtain one. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 2 yr. vocational degree in horticulture or equivalent work experience.
  • Knowledge of plant material for zone 3-5.
  • Able to work with a diverse group of people.
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Ability to work weekends and longer hours when needed.
  • Have or willing to obtain IL applicators license.
  • Bilingual is not required but highly desirable.
  • Clean MVR.
  • Knowledge of company policies/procedures/rules.

Building Maintenance – Sauvie Island, OR

Description

This position is responsible for performing routine and preventive maintenance and repair procedures on warehouses, offices, out buildings, outhouses and rental homes, mechanical equipment and utility systems./p>

Job Duties

  • Responsible for new construction of outbuildings, sheds and offices and production needs.
  • Perform plumbing, carpentry, painting and roofing and minor electrical tasks.
  • Repair and maintenance coolers, furnaces and wells.
  • Monitor sump pumps.
  • Be an active member of the safety committee.
  • Inspect and verify that facilities are in compliance with OSHA.
  • Assist HR in conducting and operating safety trainings.

Requirements

  • Ability to work 8+ hours daily, M-F and weekends when needed.
  • Physical ability to perform moderate and heavy lifting, carrying, walking, sitting, and bending for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to operate machinery equipment, such as forklifts, scissor lifts, backhoe, table saw, jack hammer.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects, work under pressure and complete tasks in a timely manner.
  • Ability and knowledge in the use of hand and power tools.
  • Ability to record and maintain accurate records.
  • Minimum of two years experience or equivalent education and experience.
  • Valid Oregon Driver’s License with an insurable driving history.

Container Production Foreman - Oregon

Description

This job is responsible to supervise and coordinate all container-growing operations at the Yamhill, Oregon facilities. This position reports to the Department Head of the container department.

Duties

  • Coordinates all production teams involved in container shrub, evergreen and rose production at the Yamhill location.
  • Supervises all daily production crew activity.
  • Organize and set priorities for efficient use of equipment and labor.
  • Identify plant problems and take appropriate actions to maintain product quality.
  • Insure company policy is followed at all times.
  • Insure that employee safety rules are followed at all time.
  • Assist with the development of departmental material, labor and capital budgets.
  • Communicate with supervisors, other departments and employees as needed.

Requirements

  • Valid Oregon Drivers License with insurable driving history.
  • Relevant horticulture experience that includes knowledge of ornamental plant material, chemicals and labor management.
  • Ability to operate and maintain a variety of farm equipment.
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of employees. Bi-lingual in Spanish is highly desirable.
  • Ability to train, supervise, evaluate and coordinate the activities of multiple production crews.
  • Ability to keep accurate and detailed records, computer use is required.

Plant Health Spray Applicator - Oregon

Description

The qualified applicant must have the ability to work in a team environment and communicate with various management levels both written and verbal. Horticultural or agricultural experience and an Oregon Certified Pesticide Applicator License (or ability to acquire) preferred. Bilingual in English/Spanish a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Ability to measure/calibrate solutions for spray equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of insects, weeds, disease in nursery crops.
  • Basic understanding of economic thresholds for application justification.
  • Must be able to work independently and be available for working evenings/weekends if necessary
  • Oregon Certified Pesticide Applicator License or ability to acquire
  • Knowledge of Worker Protection Standard and Employee Right to Know requirements (Hazardous Communication Program)
  • Pass internal safety training.
  • Basic computer skills helpful.
  • Valid Driver’s License with Insurable driving record.
