Foreman Inventory Control – Bare Root - Minnesota

Description

If you have an applicable two or four-year degree or equivalent 4-years of experience in nursery/greenhouse or horticulture, we are seeking a dynamic individual to serve as Foreman – Bare Root Inventory. Candidate will be responsible for supervision and participation in building inventory records, obtaining counts, sizes, and maintaining standards from grade outs for bareroot production fields. Monitor growth and development of bareroot crops and making timely adjustments to size and count estimates. Ensure trueness of varieties by finding, identifying, and recommending a means of eliminating plant mixtures. Provides summary reports to Management.

Job Requirements

  • 2-4-year degree in horticulture, related degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Excellent communication skills: written and oral.
  • Mathematical proficiency.
  • Computer skills using spreadsheets & data bases.
  • Knowledge of plant material and conditions that affect the growth pattern of stock.
  • Good organizational and planning skills.
  • Functional use of English is needed.
  • Valid driver license with ability to meet Company criteria for insurability.

Plant Health Applicator (2 Positions) – Bare Root Fields & Mogren Farm - Minnesota

Description

April – September Responsible for applying pesticides, fertilizers and scouting for diseases and weeds at Container Tree farm in Hastings, MN. Perform simple math equations to properly mix pesticides and calibrate equipment. Make minor mechanical repairs to spraying equipment. Keep accurate and detailed records. Operate ATV, Forklifts, small and large Tractors. Other duties as assigned, see below.

October Digger operator in Hastings, MN

December – March

Bare Root Warehouse Worker in Newport, MN Will diagnose, rebuild and repair equipment. Perform inspections and preventative maintenance on equipment. Hydraulic system repair. Manage equipment fleet and staff. Prepare and maintain records and reports. Ensure maintenance is done in a proper time frame and in a cost-effective manner. Prioritize work load. Establish and maintain effecting working relationships with co-workers and vendors. Willingness to work extra hours when needed.

Job Requirements

  • High School diploma
  • Hold Certified Pesticide Applicator License (Or ability to obtain one by taking State required test)
  • Good work ethic
  • Knowledge of plant material.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours and overtime (evenings & weekends) springs season to fall.
  • Willing to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Ability to work alone or with others in team environment

Maintenance Assistant - Nord Farm – Minnesota

Description

Qualified candidate will perform preventative maintenance and repairs of buildings and equipment. Will work with furnaces, boilers, trailers, garage doors, irrigation systems, greenhouse structures and control systems. Will be involved in new construction projects. Fill in when needed as equipment operator, performing vehicle maintenance, fabrication and carpentry work.

Job Requirements

  • 2-year related education or equivalent experience. Electro-mechanical education/experience preferred.
  • Ability to use power tools and equipment safely.
  • Ability to operate skid loader, manlift and other related equipment.
  • Must be willing to work extra hours as needed.
  • Willingness to learn new skills.

Plant Health Foreman - Illinois

Description

This individual will be responsible to scout for pests, apply chemicals as needed and manage plant moisture levels to maintain healthy plants. Will monitor & modify the specific water needs of container plants in an ever-changing environment (Weather, Leachate, EC, Porosity, Disease, etc. analysis). Set up irrigation scheduling accordingly to the dynamic environment of BNI container growing operation. Scout fields on a regular basis evaluating any pest/weed problems as well as moisture status of plant material. Take corrective action on problems that are discovered. Keep informed on the latest technologies in water management. Experiment and make appropriate changes as allowed. Keep and maintain detailed treatment records. Provide positive leadership. Direct crew emphasizing quality and maximum productivity throughout the season. Ensure all subordinates comply with company policies and safety regulations, policies and goals. Keep chemical mixing and storage areas clean, follow safety procedures. Perform research and follow through on results to help improve growing practices. Train and develop new employees. Cross-train employees for more flexibility and higher productivity. Ensure supplies/equipment needed by crews is sufficient. Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • Degree in horticulture or other related degree with basic knowledge of plant materials and pest management or related experience.
  • Ability to obtain an IL non-commercial pesticide applicators license.
  • Ability to be able to operate tractors and sprayers.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.

Irrigation Specialist - Illinois

Assistant Foreman – Plant Health - Illinois

Description

We are seeking an individual responsible for the day-to-day plant health operations. The individual will schedule and direct all pesticide applications and maintain chemical application records that meet company and legal requirements. Will manage media mixes and fertilizer program. Scout containers for insects, disease and inspect incoming/outgoing shipments for insects, weeds and disease. Assist in all watering duties. Learn to install & fix underground irrigation mains. Learn to install, program and operate the wireless irrigation system. Ability to manage personnel with spray applications, fertilization, weeding and watering practices; group may contain up to fifteen people during peak season. Communicate findings and successes with other Plant Health employees. Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • Horticulture experience that includes knowledge of ornamental plant material, plant pathology, entomology and chemicals.
  • Ability to operate a variety of application equipment.
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of employees. The ability to speak Spanish is helpful but not required.
  • Able to work weekends/longer hours when needed.
  • Ability to supervise and direct multiple crews in weeding, watering, applying pesticides and fertilizers.
  • Ability to keep accurate & detailed records of chemical applications & be able to communicate the information.
  • Understanding of media components and fertilizers.
  • Currently licensed or the ability to obtain a Pesticide Applicator License will be required to hold this position.

Container Production Foreman - Oregon

Description

This job is responsible to supervise and coordinate all container-growing operations at the Yamhill, Oregon facilities. This position reports to the Department Head of the container department.

Duties

  • Coordinates all production teams involved in container shrub, evergreen and rose production at the Yamhill location.
  • Supervises all daily production crew activity.
  • Organize and set priorities for efficient use of equipment and labor.
  • Identify plant problems and take appropriate actions to maintain product quality.
  • Insure company policy is followed at all times.
  • Insure that employee safety rules are followed at all time.
  • Assist with the development of departmental material, labor and capital budgets.
  • Communicate with supervisors, other departments and employees as needed.

Requirements

  • Valid Oregon Drivers License with insurable driving history.
  • Relevant horticulture experience that includes knowledge of ornamental plant material, chemicals and labor management.
  • Ability to operate and maintain a variety of farm equipment.
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of employees. Bi-lingual in Spanish is highly desirable.
  • Ability to train, supervise, evaluate and coordinate the activities of multiple production crews.
  • Ability to keep accurate and detailed records, computer use is required.

Plant Health Spray Applicator - Oregon

Description

The qualified applicant must have the ability to work in a team environment and communicate with various management levels both written and verbal. Horticultural or agricultural experience and an Oregon Certified Pesticide Applicator License (or ability to acquire) preferred. Bilingual in English/Spanish a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Ability to measure/calibrate solutions for spray equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of insects, weeds, disease in nursery crops.
  • Basic understanding of economic thresholds for application justification.
  • Must be able to work independently and be available for working evenings/weekends if necessary
  • Oregon Certified Pesticide Applicator License or ability to acquire
  • Knowledge of Worker Protection Standard and Employee Right to Know requirements (Hazardous Communication Program)
  • Pass internal safety training.
  • Basic computer skills helpful.
